About D'Lang Chaps

“The art of communication is the language of leadership." -- James Humes

"Talkers have always ruled. They will continue to rule. The smart thing is to join them." — Bruce Barton

D’ Lang Chaps, The Literary Society of the institute is fuelled and driven by the aforementioned beliefs. The first society to come into existence in the college, DLC was a brainchild of a small group of students. From its inception in 2006 to the present, DLC has come a long way treading tough paths, replete with challenges, thus making an eventful and a memorable journey. A feature that distinguishes this dynamic society from other societies is that at DLC we believe in making a difference, we believe in achieving quantifiable outcomes. We believe in adventurous initiatives and meticulous planning and flawless execution of events and activities right through the year. Under the able and dynamic leadership and guidance of out convenor Dr. Seema Singh, the society has been making rapid strides. Her unflinching support over the years has lent tremendous impetus to the fortunes of this society.

We take pride in being one of the biggest and most active societies in GTBIT. DLC organises various seminars, literary events, ranging from Debates and Poetry competitions all the way to events like Open Mics and Squid Game. DLC aims to make every individual proficient in communication and public speaking through a host of informative events and our ever deep love for all things literary. DLC organises and hosts diverse events and takes part in the inter college events within IPU and other universities as well. DLC has an active social media presence as well. DLC also holds the distinction of being the largest and the most active literary society in IPU, and rivals the literary societies of other colleges as well.

DLC’s focus has always been on tapping the raw potential of young minds, and nurturing individual creativity. It also aims at inculcating excellent communication skills, team building spirit, and confidence to take on any audience through open communication, shared responsibilities and effective organization in order to produce world-class professionals.

Rene Descartes’ famous statement “Cogito ergo sum” (English: “I think, therefore I am”) is the society’s official motto. This motto has found avid believers in the chaps. It is precisely this belief that instills in us the enthusiasm and the robustness to work wonders in the context of holistic development of the mind and the soul of those associated with it. It is a gathering of kindred spirits who feel that language, the literary arts , the art of communication and the acquisition of soft skills are means of celebrating life and we intend to celebrate! It is this belief which feeds and drives DLC. People question the need of literary society in a technical institution but we have always stressed upon diversifying and hence making the education process a complete and all-inclusive approach. DLC has always been driven by passion and never numbers. The society has constantly strived for creating a conductive environment for literary and art enthusiasts. We meet to inspire and share our own literary learnings with others. We are guided by a resolve to enrich the literary climate at the institute.

We endeavour consistently to fine-tune the student's attitudes, values, beliefs, motivation, desires, feelings, eagerness to learn, willingness to share and embrace new ideas, goal orientation, flexibility, persuasion, futuristic thinking, and various skills sets of communication, manners and etiquette so that they will be able to deal with different situations diligently and responsibly. The long and the short of it that DLC is zealously inclined to improve the human potential of our students. Enabling and Empowering them is the DLC mission.
